When I go out with the boys my missus will ask what time I will be home - which if fine, but why do I always say oh I'll be home a ten then go out have a few beers get scared to call her and say I want to stay out longer, turn my phone off and suffer the consequences later.

my ex used to do that. part of many reasons why hes my ex :)

my boyfriend has a habit of saying he'll be home at a certain time and then calling an hour past that time to say hes running late (as if i hadnt noticed)

It does seem quite common as my dad does it too.
It's not a male thing entirely... I also used to do this.
dont tell her a time simple just say youll be back whenever then she wont be waiting for you and she wont be mad when your late cos you cant be late!! problem solved!
as long as i knew he was safe and that he wasnt cheating on me or anything then i wouldnt really mind him being back late (whatever late is) saying that iv never been married lol but i know with boyfriends i have always been do what you want as long as you dont take the mick out of me lol.
Mr Tall
How would you feel if she done that to you???
Never asked old man when he`d be home, just pleased to get him out the door. He never came back the same day as he went out anyway.
That made it sound as if he wasnt here anymore,he is. Got 6 ulcers due to drinking so he doesnt do it anymore.

Not married, but may as well be been together 8 years.

Not really a drinker my missus (opposites attract) but yes would be very worried if she didn't call, but then again I'm hardly likely to get drugged and raped.
You never know Mr Tall
Thats the thing you men think we will have a go because you want to stay out a bit longer, what we are moaning at half the time is that lies or just not answering the phone that cover up the wanted to stay out. If you just said then Im sure shed let you, if not then shes being very selfish, its your life but us women just like a bit of common courtesy from time to time.
How about you tell her you'll be on the last bus/trian home? that way, you're out till last call yet she's not worried you're out clubbing it and flirting with other ladies.

Save the dancing for her, drinking with your pals till closing time, everybody wins and no one feels insecure because they can't reach you by phone.

Switching your phone off is going to get you into all kinds of trouble. Even if you're innocent.
why say you will be home at ten when you wont , and tell the partner you are a big boy now and if she does not trust you , why i s that ?

Yeah you all make sense but I have a few pint and all reason goes out the window.

Women are just so scary.
just keep your fone on and if ur late she can get hold of you.If you turn it off she will think all sorts!!

Men are such muppets!! lol
I agree with PinkFizz, but you know what tell her alot later, then actually arrive home before this sometimes, it is a nice feeling when you think your bloke might have left his mates early to spend time with you!
We are not, how can you say youre scared when you havent even tried telling her. Its not just blokes that do it though. I got myself in a terrible situation last week, I just start drinking and then one thing leads to another and I do stupid things without thinking.
My hubby does call to let me know, par example, last time he went out "for a couple" and "would be home by ten" but rolled in at 4am, I wasn't p*ssed off about the fact he was later than he said because he had text /called to say so, but wanting an indepth chat and stinking of kebab doesn't do a lot for me.

When I go out, I ring hubby to let him know where I am and when I will be home, I ring him when I am leaving town too. There is so much trouble in towns, and lots of knife crime where we live (two stabbings on our estate last night alone, a total of six stabbings and a boy of14 being shot in the eye with an air rifle in the past 2 weeks alone!), so it makes me feel safer to know that he is ok.

There was an occassion where we were out together and set upon and spent 7 hours in A&E, and I would hate for that to be going on and me not know.

Mr Tall, ring Mrs Tall and just let her know. If she starts nagging, then you have the choice of putting down the phone but at least you tried!
I agree with 4getmenot - I only get annoyed when I'm told by my fella that he's going for a couple and will be back by 10pm when I know and he knows it never works that way. I know his intentions are good though and he always means to come back!

Can you not arrange to go out with your mates on the same night as each other then you won't have to worry about her sitting in waiting? Or give her 20 and tell her to get her girly mates round for a chinese and a bottle of wine or 2?
Why dont you just say you will be late and then its a nice surprise for her if you come home early!!
