Also, I'm not sure why Abers are seen as overexcitable about the use of symbols...are we a different breed from other internet users?

I prefer it a bit clunky!
In keeping with the general pace of AB development, maybe a choice of 6 emoji (thumbs up and down, smiley sad face etc) would be fun, but no thanks to emotican. :-) Too much typing for me.
It's a no from me.. if you can't type any meaning to your post, then you shouldn't be allowed near a keyboard. ;-)
I dunno, do the have an emoji for Fifth Columnist or a box of frogs?
Yes I want emoticons!!!
Note to Ed: Can we have a poll on this ?
//are we a different breed from other internet users?//

Not a different breed but probably older & bit more unaccepting.
I like to see them on posts - beers, martini glasses, big thumbs, cakes and the like. They always make me smile, so from me, it's a Yes.
I think it's okay as it is - we seem to manage well enough - and I would hate to see an edit function introduced. That would be abused.
Personally I couldnt care one way or another.
//If you proof-read your post before hitting the 'Answer Now' button, you shouldn't have any need to correct or edit your offerings.//

I see this often from various members of AB.

I get what you are saying but you all seem to forget some of us just pop in and out as we have other things to do. Or perhaps you would prefer we stay off the site?
I think a 'like' button would be good. Quite often I wish I could 'like' a post e. g. Douglas's one liners which can be very witty or when someone makes a good point.
yes - a "like" function (with a history count) would be a useful addition to BA to highlight helpful posters.
LoL....

Well, that escalated quickly..... :o)

Proof-reading your post takes moments (I have already corrected 2 typos in this message) and having 'likes' would turn posts and threads into a competition.
for once I agree with JTH, it's fine as it is, leave alone, we don't need all that trinketry.
