No doubt the internet will be awash with protests at the wise police action.

I'm not mistaken about anything, Naomi. The shark ventured into non-shark frequenting waters and attacked a human and ripped him to shreds in front of horrified onlookers, which is atypical behaviour of its species. That particular shark will behave that way again if the opportunity arises.

Would you go for a swim in that very spot today knowing there is a vicious predator out there with a taste for human flesh?

I wouldn't dip a toe in that water until I knew that the offending beast had been neutralised. Call me cold or heartless but I'm simply pro human life. I respect all creatures but sometimes self-preservation comes first.
So kill it and then you’re sure you’re safe. Okay.
Safer, Naomi, a damn site safer.
No more around? Sure?

I'm not sure sharks readily recognise the boundaries between waters they should and shouldn't be in.

How do you suggest they find the right shark is found? An identity parade? Sadly Robert Shaw and Roy Schneider aren't around any more to help out.
Sorry, editing error. "..find the right shark."
Two things I know for sure, you can't swim in a lion's cage and you won't find a shark in there either.

Some might say both are pointless observations but I didn't start this chapter.
Oh, and 'Scheider'.
Since this thread has totally gone off subject I will help derail it further.

Did you know that a Police Dog is nicknamed a Land Shark?
Thank you Dougie, I've only been getting his name wrong all my life.

D'oh.
