Why is it considered acceptable to accept the use of acronyms such as 5C (fifth columnist), TROB (the right on brigade), TROP (the religion of peace), and so on?

Such usages are obviously aimed at avoiding censure as provocative phrases. They are also cowardly, as their users try to hide their meanings from newcomers, whilst emitting dog- whistles to those in the know.

If some of these terms were spelled out honestly, I suspect they might be frowned on by Mods.

I'm certainly sick of having to deal with Crabs :O
Normal treatments don't work either
Corby, I consider the small minority of people that claim to be unable to work for various reasons but are able to prop up the bar drinking pints every day from 10am as work shy. I know a few people like that - and they've been doing it for years.
Corby, //Do you know the reasons for each person being in receipt of JSA or ESA? Unless you do, how do you know who the, "work-shy" are and even if you did, would you refer to them as being "scum"? //

TTT is referring to people who refuse to work and take all they can get. Yes, I would call them scum.
Tora does troll, of course, at times, tho he's not IMO (sorry) the worst sort.
I'd add that I like him, and tho we don't agree often I can see where he's coming from.
I do think the acronyms are unhelpful, whether viewed as offensive of not.
"What is your opinion on referring to to those who are on benefits (especially those who are unemployed)as WSS, meaning "work-shy scum"?"

If it's directed towards another member then it is abusive and should be removed.

I've never seen it used on a personal level. Its a generalisation.

I must admit I don't always understand what TTT is talking about - and I've said so several times - but I don't like to see anyone on the receiving end of unwarranted censure as I think TTT often is.
"yes I pay taxes and I am well used to paying for workshy scum, am I supposed to like that?"

I fail to see the justification for allowing that description but clearly, it is your decision that it is acceptable.
On balance I'd rather things like "workshy scum" were left in, obnoxious as they are, provided, as the Ed says, they are not directed at individuals. Then people can be taken to task as necessary.

Arguably if a post contains nothing but something offensive or abusive then it should go as removing it will not detract from the discussion.
But discussions can be spoiled by the removing of a post which might contain other stuff besides.
I'd repeat what I said earlier that anything else that adds to obscurity, like unfamiliar acronyms, should be discouraged.
