Just answering the OP (as I can't be bothered to read the whole thread), No. It may be enough to oust Boris from No 10, but that will strengthen the Tories in the long term.

Liz Truss is truly awful.
Shallow like Johnson, if probably less of a liar
// a lot will depend on the state of the economy //

£400 Billion of borrowing that we need to pay back.
The only chance of Labour getting into power is if Johnson is still PM at the next election. In calling for Boris to go now, Starmer should be careful what he wishes for.
I can't think it likely that any Tory Minister would want to take over right now. I also can't think of anyone of them who could do the job calmly and re-direct the party except J.R.M. and I think it's still impossible for a R.C. to be P.M. (someone will correct me if I'm wrong). My worry is that Gove seizes the chance, as the most senior and experienced, and I think he would be a real disaster.

So, I think (and hope) that Boris carries on for now - it's his mess and he needs to cope with it.
It’s not of course impossible for a Roman Catholic to be prime minister .
It’s pretty night impossible tho for JRM to be PM ;-)
Isn’t the current PM a catholic?
No, Itch, his wife is. Cherie Blair was another R.C., but Tony B. remained C of E until he left office - then he joined the R.C.s. I always thought that that said a loot about him - that power was more important to him than his religion. That's what made me wonder if the old law about no R.C.s as P.M. was still extant.
^^^ 'lot'.... although 'loot' could come into it !
I don’t think catholics have ever been barred from being PM.
Only monarch
But Boris Johnson is the first RC to be PM
weren't they banned from parliament until 1829, ichkeria?
Possibly

I mean they were mercilessly persecuted for long periods so it certainly would have been impossible to have been a Catholic PM then I suppose but not sure there was ever anything specific laid down in law as there was for the monarchy
O'Connell was elected twice but banned from taking his seat until the Emancipation Act was passed

Yes a bad episode.

If it had been Daniel O’Donnell then understandable :-)
it wasn't personal, all RCs were banned from HP before that.
As much chance as those hooked on these quitting:

“ it wasn't personal, all RCs were banned from HP before that.”

Ha ha just my little joke :-)
I’d be the one shooting O’Donnell twice as in the famous joke …

yes fair comment Mozz, I think those desperate for a Labour win seem to want to make that less likely by trying to get rid of Boris.
