Suppose I buy a new TV with integrated Freeview plus 2 HDMI inputs and presumably digital audio output. I also buy an HDD/DVD recorder with an HDMI output and coaxial digital sound output. I want to be able to feed the audio from either my new TV or my HDD player to an amplifier to drive 5.1.or 6.1 speakers.

Is this a simple matter of connecting the digital audio outputs to digital audio inputs (2) on the receiver (probably Denon)

I would have thought that if the DVD ia connected by HDMI to the TV then the didital audio output from the tv to the the receiver would do everything for you.

I have the same problem I have a plasma LG tv connected to top of the range panasonic dvd / amp. The HDMI is great for digital but cant seem to get normal tv through the home cinema system. Thought the hdmi cable could have coped with this, unless I need more connections. Cant see that phonos are the answer though, given the hdmi technology.
