Anyone watch this earlier on C5 at 7pm?
I recorded it as I knew I wouldn't be back from my birthday tea at my daughters.
It was a hotel in Paris called George V, and I watched it because a friend of mine is going there next March for her daughters birthday.
They're not staying there, but are going for a meal which costs, (would you believe) £330 for the taster menu! That's each!
Having watched what you get to eat, I must say, I wouldn't fancy it at all.
Apparently the Beatles stayed there once and George Harrison was heard to say he preferred an egg butty rather than the caviar.

It's not 'a cup of cocoa' though is it?

It's a cup of Geroge V cocoa served in the George V - that's what you are paying for.
Same as those who don't like being fussed over. I would rather stay in a simple in with a comfortable room and good point grub, where I didn't have to dress up and act in a pretentious manner. I have been to posh places in the past with family, friends or for work. I know how to behave. They are just not me in any way.
Stay in a simple Inn.
I've stayed in some of the poshest hotels, but still prefer Premier Inn for business trips or overnight stays. We stayed in a posh hotel a few years ago and it was horrendous. The room was grubby and dated and breakfast was like in a care home with canned grapefruit. We signed out and found a Premier Inn for a fraction of the price. It was 100% cleaner and 100% friendlier.
I prefer the continuity of Premier Inn. I’m not comfortable with the pretence of “Have a nice day”.
In my experience when you book a meal or afternoon tea at a hotel of this calibre they have an area for allergy / dislike so you should never be offered anything you havent told them about. It can be a bit hit and miss as nobody likes every single item.
I can't thing of anything worse than staying in a snooty hotel in Paris.
I've stayed in some lovely hotels but the difference with luxury hotels in the Far East, Middle East, India etc is they are not 'up' themselves like they are in Europe.
