OH'S Cochlea thing had a retune today. It went up quite a lot so we are very hopeful it will work better.
He has been struggling with it.
Currently trying to get insurance for it. It cost £6000. Home insurance company Saga offered to do an all risk cover for loss and damage in and away from home. It will cost £178.33 p.a.
Currently shopping around trying to find a cheaper quote, but it's proving a bit tricky.

I think that's less than I'm paying to insure a car that cost a similar amount (and that I hardly use). I'd have thought that - if you can get it working properly - it was more valuable than a car and well worth the premium.
Can it be added to your home contents policy as a specified valuable item?
thats what i would try hoppy.
I find it extraordinary you have to have insurance cover on an implanted medical device provided by the NHS. Can the audiology dept recommend an insurer?
Have you tried this company? https://www.specialty-risks.com/a-first-insurance-for-cochlear-implants/

Did he get them from the NHS, Caran?
Before I did anything about insuring it, I’d speak to the hospital and ask who is responsible for replacing or fixing it if something goes wrong or it gets lost.
You may find the nhs will pay all costs, or that you’re only responsible for a fraction of them.
From uk.hearpeers.com
It can be difficult to get insurance as your audio processor remains the property of the NHS. The NHS will have a responsibility for covering repair and replacement costs although local hospital policy may vary so it’s important to speak with your audiologist or ENT specialist about what is covered and what is not.
