Putting this here as B&S is most popular..it's also in the 'proper' section so please don't tell me off....

Well I am seething. My 9 year old daughter went out for
the day to a fair with her friend and her family ~ and came back with a goldfish.

I don't have a bowl or tank, so have to go to a pet shop tomorrow & find a suitable home to purchase! in the meantime he is in a clear plastic bowl. I am hoping he lasts the night, as I don't have anything to oxygenate the water. I am furious because I hate fairgrounds trading fish..it is so irresponsible. Any tips gratefully received :o)

LOL @ BOO...no bother, hunny :o)
No doubt you'll do what i did pippa. My eldest when younger did exactly the same, pottered home with a goldfish from the fair. I went mental and swore under my breath all the way up to the petshop for a bowl (I didnt know then they are better in a tank), bought the bowl, food, gravel, silly novelty toy, spent a bloody fortune and the damned thing died that night!

Since then, I researched em a bit, and now I have a tank in kitchen with 2 goldies (one's a black moor) massive one in living room with tropicals in and small one in bedroom with a Siamese fighter in.

That is my fear, BOO...traipsing off to the store and buying 'Austin' all he needs and ending up with a dead fish and useless equipment :o(

Considering I have just forked out a fortune for new school stuff this is the last thing I needed!
Well when i was younger i brought home every stray dog and cat and we even had a hare that had a broken leg and my girl friend had a cub fox so you got off lightly at least you don't have to walk it ;-)
My lad won one at the fair over 13yrs ago and it is still going strong, in fact it is now huge & is part of the family (Had his/hers(?) birthday last Whit Monday :) Survived the first 6 months in a large pirex mixing bowl.... Actually he came home with two but the other one only lasted 48hrs & was burried with full Naval Honours.........

He is now swimming around happily (I think) in a tank which looks far too big for him...he has a plant, a fortress and a shipwreck...bless him.

I hope it's 35 well spent!
Best thing to do is take it back to the fair, I agree it is wrong to trade with lives of any kind, I know its just a goldfish but this gold fish will probably die anyway along with a lot of other goldfish from the fair. It should be alright in the bowl until tomorrow.
Ok, I should have read the rest of the posts!! Im a bit slow!!

No probs RATTER ;o)

Your idea would have been good if the fair wasn't 25 miles away...no matter how angry I was I wasn't prepared for a 50 mile round trip!

I have heard about quite a few fairground fish lasting many years ~ Mr P had one which he transferred over to a pond, and that lived for about 20 years. I remember getting some from a pet shop which lasted a few months, so I guess it's in the lap of the gods eh?
Awww pippa I'm so chuffed it survived the night for ya- especially now you've forked out all that money!

At least you can feel good safe in the knowledge that at least ONE goldfish from the fair has been given a fighting chance at survival- good for you!

fongers crossed it lives a long happy life :-)
fongers?!?!
