whilst i was removing some plants from my garden yesterday i came across a spider of which i have not seen before it was about as big as an old 50p piece and it was yellow and had brown stripes does anyone know what type of spider this was and would it bite

This is the female Wasp Spider (argiope bruennichi) and appeared on the back of my house a couple of years ago. It is huge, pretty spectacular looking and frightened the life out of me until I found out it was completely harmless.

yes it would bite, probably, best to squash it then nothing to worry about it. Or stamp on it or hit it with a brick
