Hi...

Im getting worried... I've found three of the house spiders, I think they're called wolf spiders, the ones that run that race horses, upstairs this week. I've been averaging about 1 a week for the last couple of weeks. They seem like my bedroom, the thought of which I cant stand. I killed one in my bedroom with my shoe, the other was in the bathroom and I washed it down the plug hole but at 3am another in my bedroom got away.

I know its been a good year for spiders, but surely I shouldnt have seen 7 or 8 in a month upstairs... what worrying me is how many I've missed.

I dont like killing them, the only things I kill are clothes moths and spiders, but im terrified of them and it takes me all I can to hit them with a shoe. How can I find out why they seem to like it upstairs and can I not find out where they're originating from and get someone in to stop them ? I know you're always going to get 1 or 2 a year but this ridiculous.

Thanks.

they're breeding like mad 'cause its dry & warm. Harmless and good for eating moths etc.

They come in thru crevices around windows (specially if you have vines on house to assist their access). Down chimneys, up outlet pipes etc.

I only swat them if they run at me ;)
Spikie,I always put conkers around each room, just throw them at the backs of furniture,it does seem to work,I've been enquiring lately when they're on the shelves again as they need replacing, anyway ,you're in luck and me also, they're due out in the next couple of weeks, spiders hate the smell of them, thank god, good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion... I found another massive one last night on the lounge wall, same type just particularly big. I'd not heard of conkers, though I did try a 'No spiders' spray last year at this time of year- Sandlewood or something like that. Anyhow, I didn't seem to get any less than in previous years.... but this year is dreadful for them.

I'm just worried they've either been breeding or that they will do, and that'll I'll send end up with more and more and more, I think I'd have to move... seriously.

I have heard of sticky paper traps you lay down but cant find any in the shops, may be if I put those down for a year I'll sufficiently reduce the population to manageable levels for next summer and autumn....
I can't bring myself to kill them, but I do get them on to the end of a toilet brush or vegetable spoon (the ones with the holes in) and then flick them out of the window. Does anyone know what happens to them if I chuck them out of an upstairs window? Will they land safely and then come back in downstairs?
I cannot bear them - but neither can my husband who is completely phobic - so I HAVE to get rid of them (dont kill them though!). I hear its mating season.. and the males are sniffing out the females web.. gross huh!
Last year around the same time.. I had 1 every dingle night for a week.. on some nights i found 2 or three! Gross huh. I lay in bed - head on pillow.. and HEARD.. yes HEARD the damn spiders footsteps as it walked right next to my head on my pillow!

FREAKS ME OUT!

I think I found where they were getting in and sealed it up as I have only had two this season so far!

Makes me shiver!!!

Nosha123, that sounds awful lying in bed... I think I'd scream and dive of bed... or faint !

Where did you find they were getting in ? Even though they are so big they must get through the smallest holes...

SpikieMikie they were getting in through a gap in a corner of the room - where we hadnt plastered properly... reckon they are breeding in the wall cavity!!! GROSS
