Anybody Seen My Cat ?

Couple of days ago I heard a horrible roar outside
I looked out and saw that it was my neighbour starting up.her car .

I thought to myself , her exhaust has blown , but even so the roar was louder than a blown exhaust .

Anyway , she told me today ,that some theiving bar steward had taken off the catalytic converter .

I ask you ?

I saw a post about stolen cats on our local police FB page and was very worried about ASBO. And then I realised that they meant car parts.

There is a LOT of that sort of thing going round here at the moment. Unfortunately, next door's cat sets off our security lights and I find myself jumping out of bed on a regular basis.

If its not catalytic converters round here, it's oil out of our tanks. Plus there is hare coursing and poaching. And with 3 empty properties locally, they have also been targetted.

We've got quite a good social network for crime with a member of the rural crime action team involved, but still it seems to be every other day right now.

Around here it tends to be gangs of Travellers (but not exclusively before anyone bashes me) They turn up brandishing crow bars and threaten anyone who challenges them.

why break down a cat for bits when you can sell it as a spare for more?

They steal a lot of cats and sell them as a lot, no faffing about, quick turnover.

Probably need more than a new cat, they are usually sawn or cut off ( not unbolted ) the theives can steal on in minutes.

What a silly state of affairs when the legal system set up to provide protection for it’s citizens, proscribes those citizens from defending realistically their own property.

That's true - a new cat for my car is £167. However if they cut either side if the cat you will probably need other exhaust system parts + fitting costs.

As it happens the cat in my car is directly beneath (and part of) the exhaust manifold - so it's in the engine bay. Not so easy to get at as one that's underneath the car.
