Was there a maze at Hampton Court Palace in the 16th century?

No. Planted between 1689 and 1695 apparently. http://www.tourist-information-uk.com/hampton- court.htm

I know this is true of the present maze, but was there one before Christopher Wren razed much of the Tudor palace & grounds?

The official blurb says that it is thought that the present maze replaced one planted for Cardinal Wolsey but gives no details of the earlier one.
