What rank is a captain, and SOE agents

Can anyone tell me what rank a captain is (was) in the British army, and if they were ever involved as agents in SOE (Special Operatives Exhecutive) during the second world war?

Many thanks as I am trying to write a story, and don't want to get my facts wrong.

Captain is a rank - not sure what you are trying to ask. He's an officer if that's what you mean.

What rank would he be in the army? And did officers of that rank go undercover as secret agents?

He would be a captain - it's a rank in the British army.

Or is there some subtle point to your question that I'm missing?

Captain is a commissioned rank in the Army, the third from the bottom, denoted by three stars (or 'pips'). Captains would be one of a number of ranks, commissioned and non-commissioned, that were employed in the SOE. Captain (as used by the British Army and the Royal Marines) is equivalent to Lieutenant in the Royal Navy and Flight Lieutenant in the RAF.
