What was that accent?

Did anyone else watch last nights Emmerdale? If so what did you think of the accent used by Rodney's partner in the vineyard? I myself was totally confused. Was it supposed to be Italian, French, Russian??? Sounded a bit like all 3 to me lol. It was even worse than Mel Gibsons attempt at Scottish in Braveheart and that was pretty darn shocking.
I think the producers should either employ actors from the country concerned or just not bother with the accent.

To say Emmerdale is a fictional Yorkshire village, there arent many Yorkshire accents to be heard. Most of the cast would be better suited to Eastenders.
