Was talking to another ABer earlier about shopping, and I was saying that I’ve had a weekly online delivery from Tesco for years, but getting so hard to get a slot these days. Then I discovered that Co-op do a same day delivery. Not for a massive shop as it’s all delivered on motorbikes/ mopeds, but at least a couple of carrier bags worth. and for only £1.99. Placed order at 3pm the other day - was all in my fridge by 7pm. Great for an emergency definitely. Especially since I still can’t drive quite yet. Who do you all use?

Som random examples of Waitrose's prices, Smow:

4 cans of own-brand baked beans: £1.10 (96p in Asda)

6 medium free-range eggs: £1.00 (75p in Asda)

Bottle of own-brand bleach: 60p (39p in Asda)

3 ready meals for one: £7.00 (£5.50 in Asda - or £3.60 if you buy the 'value' stuff)

Cheapest pack of 4 toilet rolls: £2.00 (Asda sell a pack of 6 for £1.93)

80 own brand tea bags: £1.10 (89p in Asda, although they also sell their 'value' tea bags at 39p for 40)

Mature cheddar (own brand, pre-packed): £2.75 for 550g, equivalent to £5.00 per kilo (£2.00 for 400g, also equivalent to £5.00 per kilo)
My problem with shopping in Waitrose is that they simply don't stock some of the stuff I like.

For example, for 'standby meals' I usually have plenty of canned stuff in my store cupboard. Asda have a choice of 12 different canned curries but Waitrose have none.

Asda sells 4 different types of chilli con carne in cans but Waitrose doesn't stock it at all.

I can buy stewed steak, Irish stew, minced beef and onion, chicken in white sauce and even (in some branches) haggis in cans in Asda but none of them are sold in Waitrose.

(Similar problems arise when I'm seeking canned veg or tinned fruits in Waitrose. Their ranges are very limited)
Fortunately I do not have that problem because living in the deprived NE of England we do not have the luxury of a Waitrose.
Is Newcastle not in the north-east of England then, JD33?
(There's a branch of Waitrose in Eldon Square shopping centre or there's a 'Little Waitrose' in Jesmond)
Tilly. Have you titcked the 'no bag' box.

My shopping doesn't come in bags but the crate is lined with a bag that I just lift out. Then I use that bag as a recycling bad.

Morrisons (from Amazon) comes in paper bags. Again, I use them for recycling.
I'm talking about within walking distance. Jesmond is mega posh, too posh for me, and Eldon Square is in the city centre, too far for me to travel just for a few groceries.
What's Morrisons quality like? I've never shopped there, but with getting stuff through Amazon, I may have a look.
Nobody walks to Waitrose, Jack. That's what chauffeurs are for ;-)
Point taken. As I can no longer drive I am cut off from some of the finer things in life.
Morrison's is generally quite good for quality, Pasta. (It's where I do most of my shopping, even though I've got two branches of Asda, and one Tesco, closer to me). Their fruit and veg is always excellent and (unlike several other supermarkets) they've retained their wet fish and butchery counters.
It's good, Pasta. Morrisons used to be my supermarket of choice. It's only when I scrapped my car did I start online shopping. Morrisons is too far to walk and getting taxis makes it uneconomical.

They put you in a queue. Sometimes I can get a delivery the same day. They text you with a choice of slots. You have two hours to adjust your order and check out and you have a choice of 2 days.
Chris...don't they have their own farms? I know they used to as they started as greengrocers.
I never go to the Morrison's here because the closest is 3.5 miles/2 buses away.
Thanks ummmm and Chris...maybe I'll give them a go.
I have too much food to buy to carry bags. OH could take me at weekends but he's been working all week and he is a seriously bad shopper. He'll buy anything. Mainly meat. No milk, no butter, no bread....just meat and things with red stickers :-)
I use Asda - £5 a month and you can have unlimited, anytime free deliveries if you spend over £40 (but at the moment I have a weekly reoccurring slot).

I stick with them because they were the only place I could guarantee getting a twin trolley when the things were babies (many moons ago, sob).
