I remember watching Concorde taking off from Heathrow and it was a incredable sight, the only thing wrong with Concorde was it was European,if the yanks had built her there would still be hundreds flying about.
I remember using the BA Shuttle Heathrow to Edinburgh a few times - no booking needed it was turn up and go, they promised that if the aircraft was full they would put another one on (I don't know whether this was ever needed/implemented). No meals, just a drink and small snack if I remember right.
Virgin long haul. Meals sat uncomfortably in tummy for ten hours stuck in a seat.
Im in my early 30s & even I remember getting a basket of boiled fruit sweets served & hot cloths to freshen up with!!!!

Loved it.... & usually only 4hr flights!! X

Tinks we used to get lemon wipes to freshen up on very short flights I recall.
My longest long haul was flying alone to Johannesburg after my brother in law was killed in a mining accident there, the two of couldn't go because of commitments here so I went, I flew from Newcastle to Brussels ,from there to SA, you got China plates and proper cutlery and all you had to do was press your bell if you wanted a drink , that was an odd flight, I think it was an 11 hr one yet we were in the same time zone as them :0)
i remember lots of flight where they served meals - long haul was necessary, came back from NY one time and brought my own Club sandwich back with me, as it was so huge
Oh yes, late supper on a night flight to tunisia, it helped pass the time. mostly working out what it was meant to be.
These posts bring back some memories, agree with Buenchico about Eurostar. Went 1st class to Paris for my 50th, welcomed on board with champagne and newspaper of choice. Excellent lunch with choice of menu, and bottle of wine.
Also flew Aeroflot to Bulgaria, one passenger threw himself back into his seat and it wasn't fixed. Had to wait for the Pilot to come out with his bag of tools and refix it, and it had peeling wallpaper on the fuselage. Mr U reckoned it was all that was holding the plane together.
On a short hop to Jersey, they came round with free drinks, I was still trying to get a very large vodka & tonic finished as we were landing.
i am a bad flyer so used to have drinks to help me get through it - haven't been anywhere for a long while

Haha ubasses, the Aeroflot to Bulgaria was like flying in a tin can, the overhead ' lockers' I use the term loosely didn't have shutters but had a rope type thing to hold your hand luggage from hitting you, then , smoking was permitted at the back of the aircraft but the cabin crew stood together in the middle * fagging * it and one shouted "" People on thees plane, you can smoke anyvare you vont ""
Happy days haha
first flight was to Canada, no door but an old curtain separating the passengers from the pilot, white knuckle ride it seemed
