I have been using a Wireless Router to access my cable Broadband for about 2 years now, but yesterday my connection kept disconnecting for about 5 seconds, then reconnecting for about 30 seconds, and this just continues in a loop.I thought the problem might be with my wireless router, so I decided to unplug the router and connect the cable from my modem directly to my laptops Ethernet port. The problem is that when I do this I cannot get a conection at all.All I get is the little icon in the bottom right of my screen which has a yellow triangle in it stating that I have limited or no connectivity because it cannot find an ip address.I have checked my internet settings and they are set automatically detect settings, so I do not understand what the problem is.Before I went wireless, I had no problems connecting direct from my modem. The only thing I can think of is when I set up the Broadband on my new laptop about 8 months ago, the NTL disc asks if I want to connect via USB or Ethernet, but as I was using wireless, I just clicked on the USB option.Would this make a difference?

Do the easy things first.

Switch off everything at the plug. Count to ten, and switch on in this order.

Modem. Router. PC. Count to ten between each thing. (It does make a difference.)

If there is still a problem, find out if your ISP is having problems- phone NTL and they will give you a status report.
You shouldn't have to install anything if connecting via ethernet.

Have you switched off both the modem and your laptop, and then connected the ethernet directly to the laptop, before swtching them both on again?
