After the meat market in Bejing being the second one in China to be the centre of an virus outbreak, we now have a meat processing plant in Wales being closed due to 250 staff testing positive. Are they looking in the wrong places where this virus is thriving, ( meat products) there's lots of other factories operating in none food, and not experiencing these numbers of infection.

I wondered that myself teacake.
What exactly are you suggesting? That animals have the disease and by 'processing' them for food it is causing the spread of it. ?
BSE anyone?
APG I was thinking more about the conditions they are working in not that the animals have the virus.

At the moment I'm not suggesting anything just pointing to some know facts. In the early stages some cruise ships suffered out breaks, they tend to stock up on food in different ports, so do planes.
yes, it is interesting; also in the USA and France

There may be an explanation, but it's not obvious
apparently it is an issue in meat packing plants. Its not the meat per se, its the cold, lack of air circulation and difficulty in maintaining social distance.
Perhaps all meat will need to be chlorine washed......ohh hang on.

To me its more than obvious there's a link in the food chain, viruses of the past have never gone round the whole world so quick, but food from different countries does go round the world.

@20.55 didn't know about the problems in the US and France, are we being told the truth. Takes me back to the days of mad cow disease they kept that under their hat for has long as they could, telling us that meat was safe to eat.
Makes you wonder why no supermarkets have been shut down, after all you'll get more people going in there than in factorys.
//viruses of the past have never gone round the whole world so quick, but food from different countries does go round the world.//

So do people.
There's not 250 staff at a Welsh meat processing plant who tested positive for covid-19.

There are three meat processing plants involved, two in Wales and one in England with about 250 infected between them.

Most of those infected are in the English plant.

23.32 There where people going round the world when other viruses were about, but they didn't spread like this one, so contaminated food could be the problem, more so than people spreading it?

"What you need to know about coronavirus and food

It is very unlikely that you can catch coronavirus (COVID-19) from food.

Cooking thoroughly will kill the virus.

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness. It is not known to be transmitted by exposure to food or food packaging.

Everyone should wash their hands regularly with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds, to reduce the risk of illness.

It is especially important to wash hands before handling food or eating.

Food hygiene when shopping

The risk of coronavirus (COVID-19) cross-contamination to food and food packaging is very low. Food businesses must ensure that they have the correct food hygiene and food safety processes in place and that these are being followed to protect their customers.

Staff handling food in shops are required to maintain a high degree of personal cleanliness and wear suitable, clean clothing. This includes regular hand washing to maintain good hygiene.

Food businesses are required to have a system for managing food safety in place, but this does not necessarily require staff to wear gloves when serving or handling food.

When you are buying loose foods such as fruit, vegetables, or bread in a bakery, try and only touch what you are going to buy.

Imported food products

The risk of imported food and packaging from affected countries being contaminated with coronavirus is very unlikely. This is because the law requires the exporter to follow the right controls during the packing and shipping process to ensure good hygiene is met.

Reusable cups

Customers may previously have used reusable cups or containers when shopping or buying drinks at cafes and other retailers. It is up to the individual business to decide whether they allow the use of reusable cups or containers during this period.

If reusable cups or containers are used, they should be washed thoroughly in hot, soapy water, or in a dishwasher, if suitable."

00.07 Thanks for that, but I've spent many many years in the food industry, long enough to know that they will continue to say that the risk is very low, when they don't really know, or they do know, but I know what I know. :0)
What do you know? What evidence do you have?
