I'm getting on-line advertisements for a little device which is claimed to be able to charge phones.
You turn a handle and I guess it works like a dynamo on a bike.
Any thoughts?

Is this a wind-up?

i don't possess one but solar powered phone chargers are available
Yep, pretty common. The LiON batteries wear out after time but a good thing to have if you go travelling to remote places.
The original technology was the idea of the late Trevor Bayliss. He designed a wind-up radio for use in Third-World countries and the same idea is used in other applications including 'phone chargers.
Is this a wind-up?
Emergency chargers (of whatever type) are useful if you're often running your phone battery flat. (Personally, I'm quite organised and have never run out of power -yet).
However, to be of any use, you'd need to have it with you all the time when away from mains power.
