My wife and I spend about£15 a week on bird food. Is this a lot? Imust add that we don't begrudge a penny. We get enormous pleasure from the birds in our garden.
Is it a lot,or not much?

It's what you want to spend and that's all that matters. I have no idea what I spend, but it's money well spent. I love watching the birds, especially now when there's not much else to do. The blackbirds are my favourite and are always waiting for me in the mornings to put food out. I talk to them and they sit in the tree watching me!
The adults can eat the food that is provided which saves them energy. They can then give the fledgling all the caterpillars and bugs they catch. Really important to feed all year if you want to increase the songbird numbers.
When I go outside, my blackbird always asks, 'Whatca doin'?'
I used to have magpies knocking on my back door if I was late tipping out the slug traps.... Half an hour later they would be picking fights and falling off the fence
