He was known for his roles in sit coms, of course, but was actually a superb dramatic actor. If you've never seen The Nearly Man, I can thoroughly recommend it.

And, to my embarrassment, I don't think I ever realised that he and Fern were father and daughter...

A lovely gentleman with a wonderful voice. I can never get over his Brummie accent though in The Day Of The Jackal. He was so much more than a sit-com actor having starred in many productions as well as films and radio.
