I thought there were 1001 ways with mince...
Almost cottage pie, but try this. Brown, even burn, finely chopped onion, add and cook mince, then 2 magic ingredients, 1-2 chopped habanero chillis and loads of Worcester Sauce. Serve with brown rice.

Question Author
isn't that chilli, though, really?
Question Author
that was lightening fast, violetblue, and i was just reading your chicken suggestion!
Meatballs...mince, chopped onion, oregano, breadcrumbs, tomato ketchup and 1 egg to bind and seasoning. Make into balls and fry off till browned, then add stock and simmer for 30 mins and thicken with cornflour. Serve with mash and veg.
Question Author
oh yeah, meatballs. I'd forgotten about them. My kids like tiny tiny ones that you can stab on your fork with a twist of spaghetti. Well done!
home made burgers
Question Author
oh yeah!! and meatloaf!
Quite exciting then, i suppose!
crisgal, if you try my recipe, with several genuine habanero chillis, no horrible kidney beans to ruin it, it will be a whole new experience for you, believe me.

Good grief - bobotie ; meatloaf; stuffed cabbage rolls; ravioli; mince curry (keema) ; burgers - with halapenos, with cheese, with fried onions in them etc; lasagna; as pizza topping; mince stuffed bread; as stuffing for baked marrow, courgette, peppers or beef tomatoes; albondigas; Jamaican patties; samosas; in tacos - few suggestions there........
Bobotie - that's a blast from the past nickmo!!

Haven't made that in ages...maybe in the next day or two though - thanks!!

What about Canelloni. Thats nice, its similar to lasagne but with a difference.

you'll have to explain! Bobotie?Albondigas? I can't imagine a keema curry though. I've never seen one. Do you shape the mince first or does it remain sloppyish?
Bobotie - South African curried mince beef loaf. Loads of things in it & dead tasty - One recipe here

Albondigas - the tastiest little Spanish meatballs. Serve as tapas, in broth or with a salad. Millions of versions. One here but there are variations on the seasoning, etc.

Keema matar - worlds easiest curry - beef mince with peas. Recipe here but again loads of variations.

Simplest thing - brown mince throughly, add curry paste and sliced onions, fry for 2 mins, add stock, tomato paste and tomatoes, tumeric, garlic and cumin. Cook 45 mins til quite dry. Just before serving, add peas to cook through. Currylicious...! Should be quite a dry result, bags of flavour and really tasty. Use a fairly hot paste for this one. Have with rice and or naans etc., and a simple veg side dish.

Enjoy..!

that's brilliant nickmo - cheers!
when cooking your mince put in a tin of condensed oxtail soup. It makes a nice wee change.
Hi CG - trust hrere are to be few mincy meals coming up then....and the idea of a tin of soup - mental image of a plate with a tin in the middle of a pile of mince - - - -I presume the soup should be removed from the tin and then added to the recipe............

The condensed soups make a great stock / sauce base - try also with a bean soup or one of the 'tomato soup with basil' types too - and the chicekn one or the mushroom one makes a good fish pie base too....

And re the keema matar - although the mince should end up dry, don't let it dry out whilst coooking - top up the liquid with either a little water or stock and keep the heat at a gentle simmer. If you drain tomatoes from a tin, keep the juice for this sort of use as well.

Right, bring on the mince..........
