Apparently randomly, avatars go missing from some (not all) of the items on the Latest Posts list.

Happens in threads as well, I seem to recall the Ed saying she was aware of the problem a while ago, but I might be imagining that...

Happens now and then. Could it be a problem with gravatar?

As Ummmm indicates, avatars are supplied directly from Gravatar's server, rather than being called upon from there and then included in AB's own content. So it would seem to be either a problem with Gravatar itself or with the way that AB's server initiates a call to their server.
