This is now way beyond a joke .. my wife knows that she has an ear infection.
It is not the first time, it is quite a regular event. She has worn two hearing aids since childhood.
The normal procedure is go to the GP and have them write to the consultant, who in turn sends her an appointment date. In the past it is usually a few weeks. In the mean time she struggles to hear, gets regular migraines and constantly needs to lie down in a dark room, it really has a bad effect on her daily life.
In the last hour, received an appointment with a consultant ..
for August 2020 ! .. that's 9 months away !

The first port of call will be the GP as soon as possible, hoping that they can write once more and emphasize how urgent the situation is. The quality of service we have received from the NHS in the past is really good .. but dear oh dear, 9 months for an appointment, where will it all end ?
You wouldn't want to be ill would you !
The other option is we go and plant ourselves in A&E and just sit it out !
Just wondering if a referral from an A&E Doctor would speed up the visit to the consultant ?

Check to see if there are shorter waiting lists at other hospitals in your area. (Your GP can change your referral if there are). To do so, go here https://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/Hospital/LocationSearch/7/Hospitals and enter your postcode. On the next page, click on the name of your local hospital. Then click on 'Departments and services'. Click on...

That's a useful link which I will check out tomorrow. My husband has had two small strokes. One of which on our honeymoon at the beginning of July, the sequelae of which lasted about 72 hours. He has had every test going - the last of which was at the beginning of October. Since then stony silence from the hospital - we were told that shortly after his last test he would be called to see the consultant and he hasnt been.

OK, they probably dont think it's that urgent; but it is having an effect on every area of our lives. I cant begin to describe it. It's bloody killing me.

Sorry Alavahalf, I sympathise and empathise, I really do.
Went to the doctors because I had been experiencing "wooshing" sounds in my head when I lay down at night. I was also getting clicking noises in my ears which had started to irritate me. He said it could possibly be tinnitus, which surprised me as I always thought that was like whistling noises, and referred me our local hospital ENT dept. My appointment arrived 3 days later and it was for 7 days after that. Went along and had examination, hearing test and a long chat to doctor. Am going back on Thursday to have a camera up my nose to make sure eveything is ok. This is all within 6 weeks so I am very pleased with my local hospital. It is shame that they are all not managed in the same way.
