When I try and reverse Fiest Ghia (M Reg) car doesnt move initially, it feels like you are reversing with handbreak on and then makes a thud noise like something preventing it reversing then it cant move foward in first. But leave for a couple of mins and its OK

could be sticking handbrake shoes, remove drums & check.
Question Author
HI Tim thanks for the advice.

When it happens the hand brake goes very stiff, would that relate to the hand brake shoes as well?
could do the only way to tell is remove drums & check(thanks for the reply by the way)
I agree with Tom, sounds like a problem with the rear drums, Ive seen a similar thing in the past where one of the shoes had jumped out of place and was jamming the drum when the car was reversed.
Question Author
Have checked and have had it confirmed that handbrake drums have moved out of place, its particularly common with Fiesta Ghias and Renault Clios, apparently.

Thanks for all your help.
