this is the BBC adaptation, saw a film with Tom Cruise, not sure if that was it but that was dire..

Its based on the same thing, but the awful Tom Cruise film had little to do with the novel.

Enjoyed it last night, especially when it gave us a glimpse of the barren wasteland earth had become, very chilling. I liked the Tom Cruise film !

I think if all adaptations religiously adhered to the book, we'd soon get fed up of them. It is good to see various interpretations - the Cruise film wasn't brilliant but did have some merits - and last night's opener was okay. I think it will be interesting to see how we get from the space ships landing to Amy and son looking for George.

Slow start but at least it follows the story of the book. I think the charm of it is its a bit 'Victorian' what do people expect? Either it sticks to the original story or goes all star wars and I know which I prefer. At the time there was a political sub text and if you get over the 'Doctor Who' effect (which I don't agree with anyway) there are some interesting observations of the political mood at the end of the 19th Century. As for horses 'speaking' English -I must have missed the talking horse...…………...

so did i, when interviewed on the One Show Rafe Spall said they had to use a dummy horse part of the time because the horse they had was far too frisky....

he is, though he said that his dad who has looked decidedly ill of late, has or had leukaemia, which is horrible, not sure if he is on the mend but one would wish him well

Douglas -my three horses all understand English words as do most animals whose owners speak English. I tell my dog to sit it sits, I tell my horse to move over -it moves over! I once had a horse in my care that came from Germany and you had to give it commands in German until it understood the English ones -clever things animals,,,,,,

I was bad laughing when the female lead escaped on the 'Horse'. Surely they could have got something that actually looked alive instead of a pantomime dobbin.

as I mentioned earlier, they used a dummy horse for part of the scene as the horse they had was far too frisky according to the actors on the one show..
