Breathtaking arrogance in the light of the wrong-doing of the wife of a US spy.

This is the kind of behaviour I would expect from some of the less developed countries in the world, not the land of the free and, apparently, the home of the gutless.

US (and other) diplomats hide behind DI repeatedly - just look at the unpaid parking fines situation.

An old link, but it still goes on https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/road-and-rail-transport/3686554/Foreign-diplomats-owe-1.5m-in-parking-fines.html

From wikipedia:
"It is possible for the official's home country to waive immunity; this tends to happen only when the individual has committed a serious crime, unconnected with their diplomatic role (as opposed to, say, allegations of spying), or has witnessed such a crime. However, many countries refuse to waive immunity as a matter of course; individuals have no authority to waive their own immunity (except perhaps in cases of defection). Alternatively, the home country may prosecute the individual. If immunity is waived by a government so that a diplomat (or their family members) can be prosecuted, it must be because there is a case to answer and it is in the public interest to prosecute them."

It occurs to me that one can feel remorse yet still not find the courage to face the consequences.
America always defends it's own people when they're under threat from foreign powers. They've got a 'no-one gets left behind' mentality which is admirable in some ways, but can sometimes lead to shameful results, as in this case.
I think Assange is being held because the Swedes want him.
..by the way, the so-called 'special relationship' is complete nonsense. It hasn't existed for some time, if it ever did.

People (politicians and the media) should stop using the term. It's embarrassing.
the only special relationship is between the USA and Israel. They used to have one with Taiwan but they've more or less abandoned it to cosy up to mainland China.
There is a special relationship in intelligence sharing.
Tho it has its limits of course.
// the only special relationship is between the USA and Israel //
