We always microwave ours (using the whole rolled oats) in a Pyrex bowl for three and a half minutes. You can add a teaspoon of honey but if you're trying to cut down on sugar, a handful of dried fruit (apricots, sultanas) or finely chopped fresh fruit such as apples, plums. Frozen blackberries or raspberries also add a delightful flavour and you can eat it straight from the bowl in which in was cooked. Saves washing up. I also make blackberry syrup from the blackberries in our garden and often add a tablespoon ful of that to improve colour and flavour.
