// Poland’s governing party had carefully choreographed a day of pomp and ceremony to welcome President Trump this weekend — a powerful reminder to its own people, just six weeks before national elections, of the strong bond between the government and Trump administration.

Except that he will not be here.

Mr. Trump announced on Thursday that he would remain in the United States to monitor an impending hurricane, forecast to hit Florida next week, and send Vice President Mike Pence in his place. //

A tad disrespectful ?

//I don't blame him much. The EU despises the USA so its members cannot be too surprised if he decides to stay at home.//

Yet when Corbyn refuses to kowtow to Trump it tantamount to high treason.

How so?
Personally I thought this was completely reasonable by Trump. His attention might not be entirely focused on it (he's found time in the last couple of days to tweet about Fox News ratings), but given the choice between attending an, admittedly very important, ceremony at Poland, and focusing on an impending crisis at home, I don't see how anyone can criticise Trump for choosing to stay at home where there's a major hurricane coming.

Oh yes, and taking time out for a spot of golf. But on the surface it's the right move.

// You were on Herr Hitler's side until 1942. //

Apart from the fact I wasn’t born in 1939, and I regard Stalin as just as bad as Hitler, the Russians were never on the side of Germany.
They both signed a neutrality pact. It bought Russia some time, which is what the British were trying to do with Chamberlain’s appeasement piece of paper.

Somebody must have broken it.Remember the battle of Stalingrad.
//Well, it was primarily aimed at gromit but any left wing hypocrite will do.//

Wait, are you calling all lefties Nazis? You know, the ultra far right Bazi Party?
Not that this thread should have become another WWII discussion, but the Soviets were busy supplying the Nazis following the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Indeed some of the last shipments were sent on the very day that the Nazi invasion began. So while it may never have been a formal alliance then it was also at a different level from the Munich Agreement (where the UK agreed to give Hitler everything he wanted in Czechoslovakia, but at least didn't add the promise of sending war materiel and vital fuel supplies at the same time.)
//How so?//

Danny, I meant the reaction of a lot of the right aligned contingent.
Also I'm pretty sure that most of the people proposing an early peace were Chamberlain, Lord Halifax, and various other of the right-wing Conservative Party. In the dark days of 1940, Churchill relied on support from Attlee and Morrison, among others, in order to continue the war. And quite right too -- but it's an errant nonsense to suggest that "lefties" were backing Hitler.

Nope, we waited until the Gulf War for that.
