And I can understand that with it's beautiful beaches and castles , on our local news it's said they'd had over a million visitors this summer swelling the local economy to 1billion for the first time,
My question is, Who counts the visitors ? Lol

I know, the winters! I would guess heating bills are high.
"Who counts the visitors" Maybe the same people that count the visitors to Devon and have decided that that county is the best in the country :)

Sharon I'd say not, I'm not sure what you'd pay in the south but I'd guess it's more than we do, dunno why to be honest
Really Bobbi?? My house is terraced and we don't get buffering winds. So quite cosy warm.
Sharon - actually I don't think ours are any worse than those of the other half of our family, who live in Devon. We get snow, which tends to fall as slush and rain in London (reported by the one London member), but you adapt. Its virtually as cold, so you'd use the same amount of heating. You'd be able to afford a 4x4 (wish I could)and so would cope with anything. Just what you are used to, Winters are Winters and they're milder than they used to be. Here we got cut off for 3 days about 6 years ago (everyone ended up in the Community Centre sharing food and it was all very jolly or so I'm told) - but that year Mr. J2 and I were also cut-off for3 days and we lived in central France!

It would be only up on the Northumberland coast where you'd get to cold winds coming in from the North Sea Sharon , I suppose it depends how inland you live ?
Bobbi, I am in East London and a cockney through & through. Much as I dream of remote country living I am not sure I can.
Sharon, having googled, the average price of a 3 bed semi in Northumberland is £189 k. You could probably buy 100s, coming from London.
It's all in the mindset, Sharon - but I agree that it would probably be difficult for you. I chucked everything up and went to live in very rural France for 15 years …. yes, I adapted, but it was costly. On the whole it was worthwhile, but distance made returning to UK important and, as it turned out my younger daughter's marriage has now broken-up and I am too far away (48 miles) to be more than some use, not as much as I would like - France would have left her in a far worse situation. Distance does count - but try some holidays up here. :O)
I would love to have a proper holiday there. Done day trips to Berwick, Amble and Bramburgh.
