I have just purchased a new Nisan Qashqai connects. My previous one had this warning system. I have been told by the dealer that this facility is no longer available as the French objected to it. I don’t know why. Has anyone had any experience of this?

We travel to France regularly and are always advised that if you have any device that warns you of speed cameras they are illegal and you can be fined if caught. Don't know about the rest of Europe. We don't even use a satnav as it's more fun if you get lost. You discover some lovely places off the beaten track
It's a serious offence to have a radar detector in your car in France. You can be fined up to €1500 and/or have the device confiscated and/or have the vehicle itself confiscated.

It makes perfect sense to me. Allowing radar detectors in cars is akin to ruling that all undercover coppers must display blue flashing lights on their heads. If you're committing a criminal offence you ought to be caught and prosecuted for it and any device which prevents that happening needs to be banned.

Because the previous one gave the driver a chance to avoid a fine,
so no money for that nice French Police Force.
C’est vrai. The land of kermits have made them illegal and I guess that the eussr countries will no longer supply that warning device in their cars. My top of range Skoda superb included. :-( I use Tom Tom in any case to give me alerts.
Unlike some ABers I am not infallible when speeding is concerned. :-)
Here comes the Devil's Advocate:

//If you're committing a criminal offence you ought to be caught and prosecuted for it and any device which prevents that happening needs to be banned.//

But the device actually prevents you committing an offence, 'Chico (albeit for a short time).
That's some pile of guff there Chico.

Radar detectors and speed camera alerts are safety aids allowing the driver to keep their eyes on the road and not the speedo.

Jammers are a different matter but information is king.
Our police don't see things that way, NJ!

If they find see that a driver is flashing his lights at oncoming traffic, to warn drivers that there's a police speed trap ahead, they'll prosecute him for attempting to pervert the course of justice. (It's happened several times around here).
>>> allowing the driver to keep their eyes on the road and not the speedo

Take some advanced driving courses, Douglas. You're supposed to carry out a full sweep of your mirrors and dashboard instruments at least once every three seconds.
Sounds like the advanced course teach risky behaviour then. Hope the insurance premiums are increased for advanced drivers.
Are you talking about an advanced warning of a radar detection system or the radar system used to detect sudden braking of the car in front?

Do I have an alternative? No smart replies please. For me it’s a warning device, just like my horn is for other people.
One can get separate radar warning sytems. I've seen ads for at least 2 brands. Check the pistonhead websites.

Ryezen. I refer to the radar system.
In the real world that's advanced distraction. I'll stick with what's served me well and kept me on the right side of the law these past 40+ years.

// the radar system used to detect sudden braking of the car in
front? //

If you need a Radar system to detect that, maybe time to surrender the licence.
//Our police don't see things that way, NJ! //

I did say the Devil's Advocate had arrived, 'Chico! Just trying to promote a bit of controversy!

As it happens I agree 100% with you. These devices seek to allow (or even encourage) drivers to speed with impunity, safe in the knowledge that they will be adequately warned of a detection device ahead.

When you look at forums that deal with road traffic law you will find countless drivers who have been detected speeding begin their tale with "I didn't see the camera until it was too late" or similar. It doesn't seem to occur to them that speed limits apply elsewhere other than in the vicinity of speed cameras.
Even Skodas have it now Balders :-)

And very good it is too -)
The limits apply but one gets caught because of the radar, so their account is true.
Most of the time driving is spent watching out for pot holes, never mind observing the traffic. Or speed cameras!
