Internet links

If somebody sends me an e-mail with an Internet link, to my laptop, clicking on the link is ineffective.

Is there something in the settings, which I need to undo?

I would appreciate any advice.

Maybe the sender is at fault for not providing the link properly.

Are you on AOL?

When I recieve emails to my aol account I have to click on 'show images and enable links' which is located to the top right of the email.
