i found a nissan micra 1997 passion, with 74000miles on the clock. it's next service is due at 76000miles. the Dealer doesn't give a warranty cause it's a vehicle under 1000 pounds. What are the risks involved in purchasing such a car? and how much does a service cost for such a vehicle? any advice appreciated!

a car of this age should have done 90,000 miles so at 74000 it's not bad. Ask him when the exhaust was last replaced and take a good look at the tyres. If you're spending less than 1000 don't expect to keep this car for more than 18 months - two years as it will end up costing you more to keep it going. If you're after a cheap run around for the short term give it a go! If you're really worried get the AA or RAC to give it the once over.
A micra is a great car. it's japaneze so it's 100 reliable. just get someone to check it over for you, and as long as you look after it, It will last you for years
a warranty would be a waste of money. look at websites for common faults on this car, look at old ones. They seem to be a tough motor that lasts well and should be fine for another 50K miles , if oil chnages/filters etc.
