As an Ex Serviceman I appreciate the importance of VE Day and as a Morris Dancer I appreciate the importance of Jack in the Green.
In 2020 the Government wants to move the May Day Holiday from the Monday to the following Friday to make VE Day one big celebration.
There are already thousands of people, Morris Sides etc who have booked hotels for the May Day weekend who are already unable to change bookings to the following weekend because that's already booked up by people wishing to mark VE Day.
Why are they messing with tradition?
Opinions please.

Don’t mean to disparage Balders, just find it hard to reconcile an ex Royal Marine leaping around with bells around his legs. A big stick, yes I can see that.
Perhaps your in touch with your artistic side.
Honestly I don't care.
Jack o' the Green celebrations were traditionally on May 1st itself, rather than on the modern 'May Day' holiday, so Morris dancers seem to have already displayed a certain amount of flexibility in how they view 'tradition'

Meh!

Usual apathetic response from RR as expected.
Many people have caught a cold by the change in the bank holiday and their long-booked holidays. Afraid 'stuff' happens, Baldric.

I am rather pleased that the VE celebrations take first place.
Taking a leaf from your book Baldric.
Well at least none has replied "Who cares?", Baldric.

Hi Choux, I agree about VE Day, but surely there is room for both?
Afraid not in my book. What have Morris Dancers ever done for me?

Now, VE is something else.
Used to live in Dobcross in Saddleworth and we had a Rush Cart day when morris dancers came from all over England and some from Europe. It was always on a Friday. Why can't the government give an extra day off on the Friday. Its a one off.
They don't want to; they have
Now Boris is in charge he will probably rename it to" Boris Dancing"
I have no opinion but this is my gift to you:

Thank you Douglas.
The Early May Day Bank Holiday was introduced only in 1978. On what date did you celebrate prior to 1978?
