or good vibes...anything you have got for the crew of the Stena Impero. I used to sail in and out of the Gulf with my husband many years ago and there was always a little unacknowledged feeling of relief when were finally in open waters again. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49053383

Wolf - Ever come across a Chief Engineer Training Oficer named Emtage? ( can't remember first name, Jim, John, not sure). He used to flit between ships training people.
I know how powerful positive thoughts can be, Woof..... they have mine.....x
Yes the crews must be frightened. God bless them.
I worked on a BP oil tanker 67,000 tons for six months in the Persian Gulf. I liked the Iranians very nice people.
That was 1970 very different now after the Shar Mohammad Reza Pahlavi went.

John Emptage? he was a chief engineer when I knew him. I loved being at sea.....deep sea, dark and quiet at night.

John interviewed me for the job, and did my training on the Pembrokeshire.

We usually joined and left ships though Dubai and yes, lovely people. Once we had to fly out through Jeddah which was quite different.
Question Author
wow Theland.....small world!
Joined the Mercia in Dubai. She was three days late. Stayed in the Ambassador Hotel, free everything. WOW!
Drink and sign the chit. Heaven!
Question Author
oh the Ambassador.....happy memories..... do you remember the huge bowls of popcorn they had on the bar? We saw that being delivered early one morning as we were leaving to join the ship. It turned up in an open backed truck and was shovelled off into huge clear plastic sacks like bin bags! When we paid off there we always had their cheeseburgers and fries as room service for lunch, then siesta then we would go out for a walk round the souk and have icecream at the Baskin Robbins shop near the hotel...then back to the hotel for another cool shower and dinner...usually their chicken tandoori which was ambrosial, followed by Arab coffee. The flight out was around midnight and the desert used to smell so beautiful.......we wouldn't recognise it now I bet.
Oh Wolf - You brought back memories. Taxi across the desert past loads of fire pillars.
But the hotel life? Oh yes yes yes.
Question Author
I hope the happy memories give you a better night's sleep.....
Ay how about that, small world indeed, TheLand and and woof.
I don't know you two(only by name on here), but how lovely to find a proper connection online!
Almost old shipmates. :-)
That gives me a cheery nighty night Theland x Smiles to you both:-)
Sorry! All prayers of course!
