It's a cheesy poem which is basically an ode to being a mother rather than a housewife. It has lines in it about the toys all over the floor/ sticky fingerprints etc etc but not caring because she'd rather be a good mother than a domestic goddess. Any ideas what this poem is and where I can find it? Thanks x

My mum cross stitched this poem for me when I became a mum for the first time:

I hope my children look back on today
And see a mother who had time to play
Children grow up while you aren't looking
There will be plenty of time for cleaning & cooking
So quiet now cobwebs, dust go to sleep
I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep

Not sure if this is the one you are looking for? :o)
And this is one my little girl created for me at playgroup ~ complete with little handprint :o)

There used to be so many
Of my fingerprints to see
On furniture and walls and things
From sticky, grubby me

But if you stop and think a while
You'll see I'm growing fast
Those little handprints dissapear
You can't bring back what's past

So here's a small reminder
To keep, not wipe away
Of little hands, and how they looked
To make you smile someday!

Pippa,
No they aren't the one I was thinking off but same sort of thing and just as useful. Thanks! x

There are lots of lovely poems about that sort of thing here

Perhaps it's amongst them.
Awww sorry crete ~ they bring a tear to my eye that's for sure!

shaney you are indeed a star..I think it's this one that's wanted:

Some houses try to hide the fact that children shelter there,
Ours boasts of it quite openly, the signs are everywhere,
For smears are on the windows, little smudges on the door,
I should apologise I guess for toys shrewn on the floor,
But I sat down with the children and we played and laughed and read,
And if the windows do not shine, their eyes will shine instead,
And when at times I'm forced to choose the one job or the other,
I want to be a housewife, but first I'll be a mother.

*sniff*

Thanks Shaneystar- you're a star!
You are all jolly welcome....lovely poems .Brings back happy memories of when mine were little .they certainly are the happiest days of your life when your children are small and we should take every opportunity to enjoy their childhood days.I always feel sorry for young Mums who have to up to sticks and go back to work ....they miss out on such a lot I think. Some have to and some want to ..but each to their own.I wouldn't have missed out for the world !
Take care xx
mmm, true.... lovely days....
especially in retrospect! We wouldn't need all those tear jerking poems if the harried mothers found it easy to keep this serene perspective while picking up all the Legos AGAIN and cutting gum out of the cat's hair AGAIN etc...
But so true, I miss my tots.
Im a Grandad now and the little ones are about the house again, i am making the most of it this time because i never had time when my children were growing because i was always working and before i knew it, they had grown
