I got a few tips years ago, from a stranger, on the shore.

Look for tutors in your area JJ - is your dental bite good now?

I ask because it can make a difference to your ability to play.
As Mamya indicates, a good embouchure is essential to playing the clarinet. (My friend was a clarinet teacher and I heard no end about embouchure from him!):

Lots of good tutorials on youtube. Not easy to teach yourself though.

My daughters' friend taught himself to play the Clarinet, Saxophone and Piano when he was 15. He was already a very good cornet player. He is now a music teacher.
