Cat’S Poorly Tail

Our cat is a long head moggy but he’s really scruffy. A couple of days ago he got something manky in his tail but went out before we could sort it out. When he came back the next day, the hair had clumped up but he’d caught the clump on something and the result was a bald patch on his tale. He is now licking this so much that he’s making the bald patch worse. What am I supposed to do - is it a cone of shame job and try to keep him in or will he leave it alone and the hair will grow back?

VE - he honestly seems fine just I saw him licking his tail but he’s not usually around (he has his daytime places). If I thought it was a biggie I would take him (he has an unused cat box and insurance), it’s a bit like having your first child.
he’s does not like men.

Only men !, cats don't usually like anyone.
Question Author
He tolerates me (giver of treats), he likes girl and adores boy #1 (they have bromance going on).
Ah yes, the giver of treats always brings out the cupboard love of a cat, tell boy No 1 not to fall for the 'tickle my tum' trick.
Question Author
Boy #1 puts the cat in his back on his legs (the boy’s legs) and gets him into some sort of trance - it’s not right, but the cat loves it :)
hire him out Sherr, the boy, not the cat.
He could make a small fortune as a cat whisperer
Question Author
I don’t know how he does it - the cat just lies on his back in some sort of trance (I don’t think it’s cruel the cat is totally chilled). The cat is going to be so miffed when the boy goes off to uni, I’ll have to get him some prawns (the cat, not the boy).
I’ll have to get him some prawns

( mmmm, sherr uses Blackmail then )
don't say prawns in front of the cat.
They like to kid on that they don't understand hooman speak, as you know.
I can't say dreamies without his royal furness arriving.
Question Author
I spell it out, much to the kids’ discern.

When you said that "but he hates himself" I initially took that at face value. Cats love themselves, they think that the world revolves around them.

Then I realised what you meant.

I love dogs but cats are fascinating animals. They are also frustrating animals.
I'm sure you know this but please check your antiseptic is OK for cats, many of the obvious human ones are not safe including Savlon, TCP and Dettol.
How is his tail now?

I hope that he is okay - cats look pretty pathetic when they are poorly.

Hi Wolf, he’s not licking it any more but there’s a noticeable bald patch. Hopefully it will start to grow back now. Thank you for asking :)

My girl car, Princess Merlin, (Frankie's sister) was long-haired and the knots seem to grow overnight. Alas, she was bad tempered verging on vicious and hated being groomed, trying to get knots out of her coat was a nightmare. She used to torment Frankie, bullying him and beating him up.

He has been much happier since she died. (suspicious!)
