I have been served with a section 21 notice. This is a notice to leave the property I have rented for the last 5 years.

I have been given 2 months notice leave. I was on a shorthold agreement but rolled on after the 6 months. The reason given is tha the landlord wishes to renovate the property and carry out repairs. New roof and rendering etc. It is a rickety old cottage.

Is there anything I can do? What are my rights? Many thanks in advance.

Well if he wants his property back then that is his right. You will have to find somewhere else, hopefully you will get your security deposit back.
Could you make arrangements with your landlord to return after he has finished the repairs and in the meantime as the council for temporary accomodation explaining the situation? Just a thought but maybe you can keep your home

Thanks for your replies. 2 months notice is all that was required on her behalf. Any reason would do given the nature of the tenancy agreement.

Will find somewhere else but it will be a struggle as I won't be used to paying the recent exorbitant rates in Exeter.

Thanks again.
