//SW departing E//
Been meaning to ask this for a while....
Does this mean (in this example for instance) that its coming from the SW and travelling E.
Or does it mean that its departing from the E and travelling SW?
Sorry if I sound a bit thick here (wouldn't be the first time...)
It will appear in your bit of South West sky at precisely 9.41 pm, Nails. You will see it sail brightly, and fairly quickly, across the sky until it disappears into the eastern horizon. It's lovely to watch. Like a big, bright star which doesn't twinkle.

I wont Tills. I'll be in bed by then :-)
237SJ - your hypothesis would only apply if it passed directly over head - it does not, but remains in the southern half of the sky. It is not usually (in my experience) visible from horizon to horizon, I guess it passes into the Earth's shadow - but no doubt a knowledgeable astronomer could explain this better.
I just forgot to look out for it tonight. The first time I saw it, it was right over my house. Wonderful.
I’m not sure what Baldric is being picky about.
