Hi! I would like peoples opinion on internships, especially unpaid internships. This is for my final year dissertation so all help would be greatly appreciated.

For those who have not directly been on any of these schemes but have an opinion about the subject I am also interested in hearing what you think.

If you have been on an internship could you answer a few of these please. Was your internship paid or unpaid? Would you say you were from a low income, regular income or high income background? Do you think unpaid internships are legal? What were the key motives in doing an internship? Did you find there were any barriers from getting this experience? Were you offered permanent employment after your internship? Can you share any good or bad practise from your internship? Would you say you were an equal part of the workforce?
do you think the government should do regarding unpaid internships?
• Do nothing
• Tighter monitoring
• Ban unpaid internships altogether

If possible please state your age and where abouts you come from, this information will be anonymous in the report.
Thanks in advance

I've no experience of internships, but you might want to consider also including Apprenticeships in this study, where people are employed on training contracts for the duration of their study for an NVQ/Apprenticeship/Advanced Apprenticeship, and are paid a fixed rate on the training contract. Once the qualification is obtained, the contract ends with no obligation on the employer to keep them on. (In the health sector in my experience, some employers do offer a permanent contract if the process has worked for them - others don't).

Thanks for the suggestion boxtops :)
There are paid internships as well as unpaid internships. If you want to set up an internship, you need to go through your school. They will have all of the information you need, and can tell you which internships are paid and which are not.
