Hoppy's food bank thread has reminded me of all the miracle supplements we had to take as children to make us big, strong and healthy.

I hated the cod liver oil off a spoon but at least I was always first for the spoon......my siblings down the line got cod liver oil and dribble from everyone in front.
Malt extract with cod liver oil was preferable when it arrived in our kitchen.

I loved the little bottles of orange we collected from the clinic......I guess those were free or with coupons?

Every night my father who came from a family of big tall strong and fit folk would line us up for a small glass of Guinness frothed up with milk and sugar.

The worst was when my mother went through a long period of giving us a square of Brooklax/Exlax....can't recall which......every day.
Once, not able to swallow it, I climbed on the sitting room windowsill and spat it out through the little top window. The wind caught it and the goo was still sliding down the window when my mother came in..... :-(

I'm fairly healthy....very strong.....but god knows what happened to the big and tall bit.......x

My favourite was Gripe water, I used to feign a sore tummy for some of that.

Me too, Mamya...love the taste.....did it have alcohol in it?..x
The early ones did, around 3.6% - not sure when that changed.

Still good stuff for IBS.
ooh, gripe water for IBS? thank you, will get some, family member has IBS.

I remember having to take a Haliborange tablet once a day in the winter.
They were huge, well, to 5 year-old me they were :D
Haliborange is still around. We used to have the pills. Now I just eat oranges instead.
Virol
Fennings Fever Cure

Not forgetting goosegrease on a piece of flannel next to your skin under your vest and liberty bodice.

I loved that welfare Orange stuff, I liked Haliborange to and that Indian brandy for tummy aches.

They had to call it - Indian Brandee ;-)
Yes I remember it having the name brandee now, Mamya.

I guess Brandee had the same kick?......And I could have faked such a fantastic tummy ache....... :-)
I had cod liver out (a spoonful) followed by rosehip syrup (to take the awful taste away)
And I could have faked such a fantastic tummy ache....... :-)

Could have gotten you into RADA, gness ;-)
