I have a VW Golf, 60,000 miles and am told the gear box has got a hole in it. I'm advised i can weld it, get a reconditioned one with a year warranty or a new on costing 1500

Any ideas what i should do ?

I know what you can do.

Ask this in the motoring section.
Well if you have a hole in the gearbox and it is just leaking oil with no other probs it could be welded assuming that there is no rubber seals adjacent to the weld point or they will just melt, im assuming its an alloy gearbox so will need specialist welding, but I expect you know all about that aspect, if not, do not try welding it yourself you will make big holes in it.
now mr vehelpfulguy, you're not being a vehelpful guy now are you?

I don't suppose you've ever posted a question in the wrong topic have you?

well I did once and I seem to remeber getting the same response.

So, on behalf of armanimick and myself and anyone elase who makes the same mistake. We humbly apologise as we didn't realize this was your site, that you were the keeper of the rules or that you were such a pompous a**
