Currently the national minimum wage for people under the age of 18 is 3.00 per hour, which for your 38 hours per week is 114.00 per week (bl**dy awful).

However when you reach 18 your salary should go up to the minimum wage of 4.25 per hour 161.50 per week.

Most Companies pay above the minimum wage, so I'd keep an eye out for a new job, its now illegal to discriminate against you because you are pregnant women, but thats not to say it dosent happen.

Good Luck
Its 5.05 for workers aged over 22 years
cheers horsetache, my mistake. its a long time since i was that young!!
when I was 18 i was on 16 a week, but then petrol was about 65p a gallon i guess.
blimey I just googled it and it was under 39p a gallon, and I had a mini and so ran on 2 star anyway! why don't we have star'd petrol now?

dot - the students not paying tax thing is confusing becuse if it is a temporary job where during the period of work you will not earn over the normal tax barrier (i.e. about 5 grand) then you don't pay tax but if you wil earn over this amount or if the employment is perminant then students do pay tax like normal working people. I know as I am a student, only thing students don't pay regardless of their emploment is council tax.
they must have changed that then cos when I did my degree (1997 - 2001) i worked 26 hours a week (at night) and didn't pay tax and got a full Grant from the LEA. and I got the student loans aswell, I know that was a different grant system but when did the tax change?
