This may well be an urban myth propagated by history students but I remember someone telling me that there were two generals in the Franco-Prussian War called something like 'Henau' and 'Stedion' - (Hey now, steady on!) I'll be very disappointed if someone confirms that this is indeed a myth!

There was an Austrian general called Haynau who was a particularly repressive old sod even by Hapsburg standards in the 1848 revolutions who was given a rough ride by the London crowd on a visit to Britain a few years later. he was labelled 'hyena' in the british press
