Don't really expect a solution to this problem so probably more of a statement than a question. Why is it that I can go 7/8 hours during the day without visiting the loo, but at night I can be up every 2 hours - so annoying.

Do you drink more in the evening than you do during the day?
Perhaps you are subconsciously holding it during the day but as you relax at night so does your bladder? I am of course surmising as I am not medically trained
i have the opposite problem, go every ten minutes in the daytime. Its a nightmare. I sympathise totally
Eek...7-8 hours doesn't sound good.
I agree with Rr.
Because there is more pressure on your bladder when you are asleep, especially if you sleep on your left hand side or on your stomach.
It happens......not that uncommon and is probably due to instability of the muscle regulating bladder tone.

Have you had many children OR pelvic operations?

I like the answer of Lydia.
Can be a symptom of Type 2 Diabetes. From NHS -

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/type-2-diabetes/symptoms/

'Many people have type 2 diabetes without realising. This is because symptoms don't necessarily make you feel unwell.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes include:

peeing more than usual, particularly at night
feeling thirsty all the time
feeling very tired
losing weight without trying to
itching around your penis or vagina, or repeatedly getting thrush
cuts or wounds taking longer to heal
blurred vision'
I drink loads all day and don't need a wee more than once, then like you need 2 or 3 urgent wees at night. I think aunt Lydia may be right. It's worse when I have eaten 'windy' food. Also my tummy muscles are pretty weak due to major ops.
I think it's easy to be distracted during the day too; I sometimes think I need the loo and don't go, and easily last another couple of hours. I also drink more tea in the evening, which will make you wee a few hours later. Try stopping drinking earlier and switch to caffeine free as caffeine can make it harder to sleep/relax.
