One of my colleagues says that he always wakes up sweating in the morning, even though he's been motionless all night. He'd like to know why this is so, when surely being motionless would cause you to cool down (no-one else I know has this problem !) ?

i'm assuming he has been sleeping so how does he know he's been motionless?

He says that this happens on the train, so it'd be pretty obvious if he'd been moving about a lot. Also, his wife can vouch for the fact that he doesn't move about !
don't know if this will be of any help to him but won't hurt to give it a go

I went to bed a few weeks ago (when it was really hot) I had all the windows open and I'd got the place as cool as possible. Managed to cool right down to go to sleep...woke up at 4am sweating my bo*locks off!

I remember waking with a start and was feeling quite flustered so it might have been the result of a bad dream.
Just a thought, maybe total tosh really, but when you are sleeping your resting and consuming energy. I wonder if whilst sleeping so much energy builds up as heat and is what causes the sweats?

My husband wakes up most mornings sweating and hot but he is on a lot of medication so we put it down to that. Is he on any meds?

Update - He's just told me that he only wakes up sweating when he has an "unplanned nap" - ie. he wakes up sweating if he falls asleep on the train or on the sofa, but doesn't if he's in bed. Don't know whether that helps !!

Oh yeah, forgot to say, he's not on any kind of medication.
when i go to sleep and i am not really tired, i have lucid waking nightmares - i don't have them if i am properly tired - so perhaps he is having very realistic stressful dreams that are making his heart race and so he sweats - lots of people forget their dreams on waking
