As you guys must have realised, I have recently *ahem* acquired two little feline sweeties... Well, I have noticed that I have been sleeping better and feeling great since they have moved in with me..... I had my annual MOT this morning and the results were just grand - my blood pressure is now 123/75 (not bad going for a 52 year old !!!!) and all the other results were really, really good. I had no idea that pets came with health benefits lol ! I wake up in the morning and actually want to get up and do stuff, plus I can carry on until late evening... all this is since my two moved in with me.... amazing or what ?

Hi juggle, Thats brilliant, any pets will relieve stress, especially cats and dogs, they are great company, will listen to you, will not judge you, you can tell them anything and they won't tell anybody else, tropical fish are also a great relaxant, enjoy them and hope the keep you happy and healthy for many years, Ray
'Good for you' I'm 73, and I'm sure it's my pet thats kept me going.
I'm glad that you have these two little females in your life.

Cats really are good company and have such large personalities. But some times I feel the urge to strangle Frankie - he is almost three but still acts like a kitten and he is forever hungry.

I think that dogs and cats are people too. :-)
I am 57 and we have 4 cats. It's great to see the antics out of them as they interact with each other.
My advice though, is get them speyed.
My pets keep me sane. The benefit of keeping pets is well known.

Thanks everyone... I hadn't realised the health benefits !

Theland - they are already spayed (and microchipped, wormed, vaccinated etc etc) - if they hadn't been done, I would have gotten them done asap, I entirely agree with you !

Of course pets are people too ! These two have such brilliant (and different) characters, they are making me smile an awful lot .... and growl at the scratching of the rather new fabric upholstered settee, even though I have bought them a scratching post and was comically seen to be on my knees one evening *ahem* demonstrating how to use said article...lol
mine keep me sane. at the moment i am sharing the sofa with smirnoff and issy (cats)and cassie (beagle) 4 cats still outside not come in yet
Oh, how right you all are! Animals are great little "stress relievers", aren't they? The boffins reckon that just stroking a cat or dog will help to keep your blood pressure low. It's nice, too, when you get that lovely welcome when you arrive home (whether you've just been shopping, or have been away for a few days as I just have - business again!). My lot all went potty when I got back last night!! (Even the sheep were pleased to see me!)
Jugglering, I'm so pleased that your two wee girls have settled in & you're enjoying their company so much. Are they getting on any better together now? K xx
Our animals are truly part of our family and we have so much fun just being with them and interacting with them. Those that say cats are boring, aloof and don't like people obviously don't know cats properly and if they do have cats they just don't bother with them much. They have so much personality and are all so different.

I can honestly say that I have loved all my dogs and cats over the years equally. They have been part of my life and have enriched it tremendously. At times I honestly believe they have kept me strong really bad times, and have kept me going.

Of course, sometimes they drive me to distraction!!

oh loftylottie i couldnt agree more, cats are wonderful creatures (until you find a dead bird on your bathoom floor in the early hours) entertaining in their funny little habits and theres nothing more relaxing than having a cat on your knee purring away while you stroke their silky fur and drift off to sleep with them....zzzzzz i think that mental health patients should spend time with cats and dogs because theres nothing more rewarding than knowing that little bundle of love and joy loves you unconditionally. and the bonds that can form between owner and pet, they somehow know when your down or not feeling well and are there for you more than some humans.
