Where abouts are you headed? The weather in the north say Johannesburg will be quite different from the south, say Cape Town.
The North will be very warm and dry, while in the South it may rain.
Sorry, not much help for you really!

thanks for that im heading all over going to kruger np than victoria fall then cape town.
Capetown is a fairly laid back sort of town.Take lightweight clothes plus a warm sweater or cardigan for evenings as well as a raincoat which you'll probably need.Take a pair of comfy shoes as you'll almost certainly do more walking than you plan to do.
Natural fabrics such as cotton, linen or silk are best. Nobody dresses up really. Kruger can be chilly first thing in the morning so a fleece may come in useful. Shorts and t shirts will do.
You will love south africa! Ecspecialy if you like nature scenes. Visit www.southafrica.info for some useful information.

Most of the time you'll be most comfortable in light, summer-weight clothes but do pack a warm jacket, socks, good shoes and a rain jacket. Pack sunscreen lots of it and a hat and sunglasses. Make sure you have at least one cool shirt with a collar for sun protection. Stock up on insect repellent and, if you'll be in a malaria area, ensure you have a cool, long-sleeved shirt and cool long pants for evenings. Take good walking shoes.

Always pack a bandanna or cotton scarf and a sarong, kanga, pareo, kikoi whatever you want to call it. If you're spending time watching game, you should try to wear reasonably neutral colours . You don't need formal clothes, but you will need something pretty smart for exclusive hotels and the Blue Train.
